it would not help.....IMO.....the stock cat back is rated for supporting 350WHP so it would not be of any gains other than the weight loss of the exhaust itself.
A lot of people drop the catback at the track...your letting the car breathe more and getting rid of the weight from the catback...I'd do it if you don't mind bolting and unbolting the catback everytime you run it. And awesome...another '03![]()
It probably wouldn't be worth it at all on a near stock car. Now if you had a cam'd/ic'd car setup for the track, then yeah, it wouldn't hurt. It still sounds like **** though.
Yeah I'm not sure if I will. Its got a 3.4 pulley, cai, shift kit, ubend delete and a aftermarket torque convertor. I not to much into it sounding like hell any ways. I really need it tuned more than anything. Thanks for the replies!!!!![]()
You need more than a dropped catback and a tune to get away with a 3.4".
I bet your knocking like crazy.
Lets put it this way the Record 10 second 1/4 mile, Intense Racing, Turbo GTP runs with the cat back disconnected.
This thing sounds like a jet.

you will have max knock at high rpms just before you shift usually....that is where your boost will be the highest, so that is where knock is the most prevelent
I dont know how you couldnt have knock with no tune, no headers or plog/downpipe. You better check it again.......it almost has to. Most people knock some on stock everything or very light mods, let alone dropping the pulley size.
no one would believe me that I had no knock on my stock setup.....you wont notice it until just before you shift or over 5 grand on the tach probably. How can your setup flow that good with no exhaust mods except the u bend delete? damn, and I was worrying about having some knock with DP and plog with a 3.4 on DHP's pcm.......maybe your sensors are broke.....LOL...what are using to scan with?
Its a Snap-On scanner. I'm going to try it again just to make sure! Hell who knows? It runs pretty strong for being up at altitude. I'm thinking of putting a higher octane fuel in it for this weekend, what do you think?????![]()
wow. if hes right on the whole no knock thing with the 3.4 then good on ya bro. like he said, almost everybody has knock with this setup. hell most people have at least a couple degrees even after a complete 3.4 setup and have to get it tuned out.
Get a scan at the top of second gear...like around 70-90...that is where most KR is. If you have access to a tuner...aka DHP Powertuner or HP Tuners software that will give you a REAL scan and tell you what is really going on. I had KR with a 3.5" pulley with a ported front manifold, 3" DP, U-Bend Delete, 3" Catback, 180*, AL104's, DHP PCM, 1.84:1 Roller Rockers and a FWI. About 2-3* up top of 2nd.
