stop wasting money? getting constant tunes is a waste of money...
with a tuner it is a one time buy and then you can tune whenever you want for FREE.

Here's the essay...
Yea, tuning for anything over a 50shot is highly recommended (if it's a wet shot, dry shots requiring tuning no matter what the shot is IMO) since timing is important to pull. I wouldn't recommend spraying a car unless it has at a lot of exhaust work. Spraying with plog-dp, or stock mani-dp combo's is just way to restrictive. Headers at the minimum either running to a nice flowing exhaust or even better, a cut out. Intake, pulley, blowers, ported manifold, ect, aren't needed with nitrous. The only mods you really need are rockers on the exhaust side and the freest flowing exhaust you can get. The better the exhaust flows the more efficient the nitrous will be. Spraying through the blower is a waste since the nitrous will heat up and expand thus making it less efficient but for some that's the only choice.
the whole idea is to get the nitrous to the cylinders as cold as possible and have more than enough breathing room to get it out. Since nitrous goes in the liquid form (on an ideal setup) nothing is needed to help it get "in" but once it burns a 100 shot will have the same exhaust volume as a 500 c/i motor, hence the required exhaust mods.
Now, as for tuning... I was WAY too paranoid about timing last year when i ran my car. I was new to tuning, new the gp's (only 4-5 months) and new to actually racing a quick car. I pulled back 8* of timing and only ran 12* at WOT on my 75-100-125 shot. I actually only need to pull about 4-5* if that. It was a dry shot so i had to compensate for the fueling with my injectors. What i did for that is just scale the hell out of my maf adding up to 50% to the WOT cells to make up for the fuel needed. In that tune the car was useless unless the nitrous was sprayin, hence why i'll be running a wet shot setup this year. Even with everything against me i somehow was able to squeak off some 11 second passes and 115-116 mph. This year with the higher compression, cam, ect i should be able to match the mph and et easily on a 50-75 shot. With that shot i can make 12-15 passes with out a problem on one bottle which i don't plan on doing anyways, that's just way to hard on these transmissions which are obviously the weak point hands down.
Nitrous isn't for everyone but it's very cost effective IMO. I don't know where you guys are getting $50 per bottle fill but i usually pay about 25-30 depending on where i go for a full 10lb bottle. I don't make 100,000 passes at a track and i don't street race so i c no reason to have 11 second power all the time but to each is his own i guess?
good info mike :th_thumbsup-wink:
that puts things in a lot better perspective.
50$ for a refill is at summit racing. its my brother that has spray and well he probably has not looked around for cheaper.
98mph on a stock gtp is AWESOME. thats all i traped in my 04 (gen V) with 3.29 gears, intake and headers. cant wait till i get a tune on it.
Yeah...14.4 @ 98...I ran a 15 flat @ 92 I think the first ever time at the track. Granted it was hot and summer time...then I did a few bolt-ons went back in the fall and ran 14.2 @ 97...wanna tune mine :p
you pay once for the tune....come on now what kind of chop do you think this is?? check us out in the new issue of GM High Tech Performance, we got 278whp 300wtq out of a new TC SS Cobalt
Stock one right? There was a new SS/TC at KCIR recently who was running mid-high 12's. CAI, FMIC, Meth, 3" Exhaust...tuned...said he threw down 330whp and 352ft.lbs on race gas (and unknown boost levels).
yup all stock, just the tune as the only mod
lol, yea i just ran that today. I think i'm going to start a thread so peeps can find out they don't need all the mods in the world to have a fast car. I definitely couldn't believe i trapped 98mph lol. My other gtp with rockers, headers, 3.4, E85, intake, and other supporting crap only trapped 102-103 lol. It wasn't even the cars full potential either. I might have been able to squeak out 1-1.5 more mph and .1-.2 if i would have kept at it.
