i have a 99 GT and due to a LIM failure, spun a bearing. Since parking the GP I decided to put in an S/C engine and have finally located a 100k S/C engine for $300. Since the engine is out of the car with easy access I thought I would change the LIM and valve covers while out of the car. plugs, wires, basic tune up as well. Also wanting to buy and install headers while swapping out the engine, seems like the easiest and most logical time to do so. what else would you recommend besides LIM, valve covers and headers should be done? I am planning on keeping this car my DD once it's back on the road.

You'll need a tuner, or a vendor tune at the very least.

you need the pcm tuned for a sc engine. if you dont plan to mod it, stock pulley and and your na exhaust manifolds will work just fine.

you valve covers from the na engine will not fit the sc engine.

if you plan to mod it some, like a 3.4 pulley, you need headers, may as well install them during the engine swap.

you also need a l67 maf sensor, and its pig tail, then cut your cars off and splice it in.

no better time to do a cam, or rockers if you don't want as much power, but rockers can be installed just as easily in the car.

and, depending on how nasty the new l67 engine is, if its a oiled up mess, if change the rear cover gasket, crank seal and the timing cover, oil pan, oil filter housing gaskets, and valve cover and lim and supercharger gasket while its out.

what i did, its super nice to have a oil leak free engine for over a year now.

You could get a N/A bottom end and top swap it, and enjoy the bump in compression.

If you can get the engine wiring harness from a gtp of your year, it's easier than adding pins to the pcm for the l67 MAP sensor not maf, mafs are the same.

Doing valve springs is easier out the car. Oil pan gasket is a good idea, get the main seals too they are pretty easy to do with motor out. Take the timing cover off for the seal and put a new chain and tensioner in. These aren't a must but you know while it's out..

you dont need to pin the pcm for anything, just lop off the old map pig tail and solder on a new one.

you delete the bbv actuator code and off you go. or, that you can pin to the pcm, not really needed tho.

I talked to scotty before and still plan on sending him the computer for the upgrade. as for valve covers I meant gaskets, no need to have them leak 1 month down the road when it could have been addressed.

Since I am not planning to do any mod's to the engine, is it worth buying headers for the car then? will it make any noticeable differences to MPG or performance?

If you're doing a topswap, you will need headers to prevent knock retard.

    Don't do headers. They suck.

I picked up over 3 mpg on the highway with a p-log on the front, and ported manifold on the rear bank, and of course a noticeable performance increase, how much performance increase? who knows, but my but meter likes it!

Hahahahaha once you feel the power from adding the supercharger you'll want to do more mods, it's a disease and the only cure is to spend more money on parts lol!

when doing a topswap, headers are a must. the difference is substantial.
