I've got a 99 Buick Park Avenue Ultra. This is for a junkyard war competition where I have to make 8 1/4 mile passes. We are on a dirt cheap budget. $500 and the car was 350. I'm not afraid to go over a bit. But I've been doing alot of reading but I want to know what can I get by with? I'm not worried about reliabilty. How small of pulley can I get by with? Can run 100 octane fuel or higher if need to help with KR. Plan is to put it on a diet and pulley swap and intake. Maybe exhaust and hope for the best. Any advise? Thanks

Slam some 116 race gas in the tank and put a 3.4 on it with nothing else and let it eat.

It really wont be much faster though, car is still heavy.

Yeah.. each seat is likely at least 80-100lbs. I'm basing that off a Bonneville seat being 80 and the PA being larger.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

ditch the giant underseat battery for a smaller one, add a junk jumper cable wire for an additional batt negative to block ground path

So between 97 and 99 they put the battery under the seat?

Pull all the insulation, pull the alternator off (if your battery will last the runs) Gut Everything not related to moving the car. dash, seats carpet, soundproofing, trunk lid, hood body panels mirrors, as long as its still solid. Do minimum fuel for runs,
if you see KR, Drill the Tstat, colder the engine less KR (for a little while)

If your hacking it up, don't Buy an intake, make one, if there is no hood, aim an open pipe somewhere cool (since only a few runs who cares about filter.)

Yeah, we are planning to gut it completely and hack the exhaust as well. Also planned on building an intake. My team and I have been around racing, just unfamiliar with the 3800. Was more looking on little tricks to do and how small of pulley I can get by with for this application. I've read on forums alot but reliability is a factor in most advise and I don't care about that.

keep the plumbing to the rear air shocks but ditch the ride leveling pump or make it so that you can hook it up with jumper cables to add air... and be a stand-alone compressor for your tires even.
pumping up as high as you can to keep it so that the car only dips an inch off of full rise when someone sits on the trunk lid.

if you can find a dhp tuner, you should turn off the evap codes, egr codes, random misfire, and might as well remove the egr valve and evap solenoid. the 16" torque star aluminium wheels are the lightest, I think.

if you put too small of a pulley on, the car will see the predetonation and cut timing, which won't make the car faster. but since reliability doesn't matter, just disconnect the knock sensors, it might be able to survive the 8 runs or whatever

any weight forward and below axle center line on the front is good, anything above and behind is the worst

if you can't get lead pellets to fill the front crossmember start taking off hood prop rods from older cars and shove them through

Can you use nitrous? That thing would boogie if you can find a cheap kit.

We are allowed to use Nitrous, since we are supercharged. We are put in the anything goes class. We were considering Nitrous. We are gonna rig up a methanol injection to try to combat temps and hopefully get some extra hp. Gutted it yesterday and lost about 300#. Planning to get a pulley this week. Still trying to get it to idle. It'll start up and run for a few minutes then just buck and die. starts right back up though. When trying to launch it bucks but once you get it over like 2000 rpm it is good. I don't have to get it fixed but gonna try cleaning the MAF today and see if it helps.

Also what about the bypass for the supercharger? Do I need to do something with it?

Well you don't need it, so lock it closed. How about an extra light motorcycle battery, might still have to have a jump box, but it would cut about another 60#'s out.
