    3.8 engine. not the supercharged.

I'm going to tear into this project tomorrow.

I don't have any torque wrenches so ill need to buy some. Will I need 2 torque wrenches? one for ft pounds and one for inch pounds? I'm thinking i can get them at harbor freight.

Will I need to use loctite on the bolts?

you can get by with just making them good em tight. the lim is 12 fp not sure what the upper intake is on a n/a engine.

all that info is all over this site already. theres got to be 3 lim threads from the last 2 weeks.

you need thread sealant on the lim bolts too, not loctite.

No spec needed, just really snug is good enough.

You could snap a bolt even at the stock tq spec because technically they are TTY bolts I think.

    The head bolts are tty.
    LIM = 11 LB FT.
UIM, Valve Cover, Throttle Body = 89 IN LBS.

LIM specs have been revised over the years as the gaskets have changed.

Plastic gasket w/o metal sleeves was 11 ft lbs
Plastic gasket with metal sleeves was 13 ft lbs
Metal gasket, I have used 15 ft lbs about 100 times successfully

UIM is 89 in lbs which.. being 12 inches in a foot.. you could do the math down to 7.4ft lbs.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I had to set my inch lb wrench to 132. I do not snug major gaskets like head and intake manifold gaskets because it isn't worth risking. Thread locker when applicable and torque sequence/specs are a mandatory thing to me.

Heads bolts are different, those are something you want to care about.

Everything else doesnt matter on a 3800, snug em down and go. The specs are so low anyway, why waste my time breaking out the torque wrench when my electric impact does the job in 1/4th the time. Same with any LS motor, TQ the head bolts, slap the rest together without a care. Time is money.
