Yep, you need a new filter for sure, along with your new pan. Might as well put in a Transgo kit while you are that deep into her.

All 4t65e's need that kit, every one of them. You've already done 95% of the work already, lol.

yeah dude you should do the shift kit. I did it last friday. Literally takes about half an hour more work than just fluid and filter. It's just like 3 springs and 6 shims. If you have to order a pan, order that shift kit too. Your trans will thank you, shifting fine now or not..

Please tell me your grammar is just shorthand?

Either way it helps with hard shifts. If you have none now, you will eventually

Then add a cooler, install this kit, run Dex VI fluid, get a tune, and add a bottle of Lubeguard red. Your transmission will thank you and live a long life...for a stockish engine. Unless you have something older than 03, then you might have problems with overdrive eventually.

That's a game changer. You have a 4T60e then. It's a different shift kit for it, so nevermind.

I have a later year engine on it though because my alternator assembly is different than the regular 97 assembly setup

All 97 na motors got the 4t60e...best way to see if it was upgraded is to see if there is a vacuum line that goes from the throttle body to the front of the trans (vacuum modulator)..if so you got a 60.
