I just bought a 2001 grand prix GT and drives clean and smooth no problems. recently i would say after a half hour of driving it around the RPM just dies, the car runs no problems or sputters, its as if the RPMs arent registering. its not a huge deal because my car is ok i dont have any problems, but i do want my tach to work. any ideas?

    ^^Pretty sure he nailed it.

The CPS is a two part sensor, rather it may be safer to say that it generates two signals from the interupters on the back of the crank pulley. One generates a signal that gives you the RPM read out on your dash but also gives the computer information to run the traction control system. The other signal goes to your Ignition Control Module and controls spark and if that signal fails, it will leave you stranded.

so I never got back with a reply. my car has been parked, but now that I'm back I swapped the cranhshaft postion sensor and there is no change. my tach still sits at zero once the car is warmed up. it works from cold start but then it dies as soon as the car warms up
