    I was replacing my fuel filter and while taking the nut holding one of the lines on (which appears to have completely fused to the metal of the fuel filter because I could not remove it even after this happened) the line completely tore, I'm not sure how exactly it happened, but it completely severed. What do I do now....?

    next time, put vise grips on the line nut, hold it still, and turn the filter off the nut so the line dont twist.

    you should be able to get that line end at a parts store.

    the right thing to do is to get a double flair tool, put a line nut on the old line, then flair its end, then use a line block to bolt it together.

    or the quick and easy way is a compression fitting.




    i used them on my brake line repair.

    Does the fuel line just slide in there or what exactly do you have to do?

    get some sand paper, sand the line smooth of rust, then cut the old line clean with a hacksaw, then slide the nut part on the line, theres a small fitting you slide on next, then the middle part, then wrench it tight, do the same for the other side.


    this one in the pic is huge, but the ring it slides on the tube. this is one side.

    those compression fittings, if the parts store dont have them, any hardware store will. they cost like $2.50 each for small ones.

    Brass isn’t as strong as steel and shouldn’t be used on the brake lines because of the hydraulic pressures the lines are under. You are fixing your gas line, not sure if this would apply.

    If that's the only reason why I think the fuel lines would be fine but I'm not so sure about the brake lines

    its safe, those things hold brake pressure. the fuel pressure is a hell of a lot less then the brake pressure.
