Yea get that changed. 1 qrt every oil change seems to be normal according to GM but 2 sure isn't. At least you have a Cherry picker so it makes it a bit easier.

I don't see the job as too hard with a cherry picker. Just like changing motor mounts with one extra step. There is a video on youtube of a guy doing the job on a 3800, he makes it seem hard though.

I found a newer one, real easy to me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2f93YWC7aXc

He has way more to worry about then the gasket. My god I couldn't even make it a minute into the video before stopping it. The cancer is horrible!

Bro I didn't think changing that gasket would be hard. It took me five hours and alot of cuss words. The bolts for the motor mounts are a *****

This is what I'm using to pick up the motor. It was $50 at harbor freight.
The video nice but the car is a 3.8 III with the aluminum sub-frame.

Does that have the aluminum pan or the steel pan. If it's the aluminum pan, it's a super easy fix. If it's leaking, most likely it's the steel pan and the hardest part is that darn U bracket that is bolted on the motor. I personally ripped it off, had an aluminum pan and the new bracket waiting. It's worlds easier to swap and do.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

my car has the aluminum sub-frame and a steel oil pan.. how hard would it be to add the aluminum pan. anyone can post the part number and I take a look at the cost. I have the a new oil pan gasket for the steel pan. can it be reused or not.

GM came out with a TSB years ago on the oil pan leak on these engines. They say to put a 1/4 bead of RTV sealant on each side of the gasket. I use Permatex ultra grey. Considering how much of a pain this job is I always use RTV on the gasket.

No offense but start using the search on the top of the page before making new threads. Just about everything you'll ever encounter is easily available and very common.
