Carpart.com.
Its much quicker and easier to find a L26 or L36 motor and make it pretty much a drop in unit. The L36 will require some part swapping to make it work good.
Don't make it difficult and get a supercharged motor and trans, because you'll just have a hugh headache on your hands and in the end it will likely never run.
so was mine an l26 or l36?
So either one will work?
Yeah, you could buy either motor if you wanted too.
There would just be parts from your old motor that you would have to swap over to the "L36" if you were to buy one.
But more than likely the L26 motor will be the same cost or within a small amount.
What parts would need to be swapped?
could you describe that just,a little bit more i know what the intake and injectors are but lim and tb?
lower intake manifold, and the upper plenum, (lim and upper intake) TB = throttle body, ( where the air filter tube meets the engine) the TB bolts on to the upper intake, the upper to the lower intake.
if you get a older engine you want to change the lim gaskets to the up graded metal gaskets, so theres no extra work involved really. ( other then changing the lim over)
if you look around you should be able to find a l26 for rather cheap. they are in a bunch of newer cars, buick lacrosse uses them and a few others.
so just chamge the upper and lower intake and TB and put my injectors in and i should be good?
all those and maybe a few other sensors, you'll need to double check the rest of the sensors plugs and make sure they match your engines. egr, map sensor, knock sensors, and so on.
this is only if you find a engine thats a l36 the 97-03 engine. a l26 04 and up should hook right up.
im checking arpund haven't found an 04 and up yet
So would i just need to buy gaskets or more?
Swap the rear exhaust manifold, and any secondary air injection if your car has it.
Swap the UIM and block the coolant ports on the LIM while you are there.
And depending on what you get it from, swap the flex plate. Some bigger body cars were 258mm converters, not 245mm.
If the motor is a 95-98 swap the alternator bracket.
Swap AC bracket if different
Swap oil pan if it's steel, yours is better.
Around here l26 is almost half what a l36 is.
