Well my girl friends sister just got a 1998 gt coupe, it has 100,000 on the dot. The otherday my girls dad was going to drive it, but he turned the key and nothing at all. He thought it was the started, so he replaced it, and nothing, he said it acts like the shifter is in drive. The battery is good! He called me and asked what it could be, i told him i had no idea so i came here! Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys!

    battery grounds, dead battery?

or something deeper. like a ignition harness.

you can try to jump the starter too, turn the key to run, then jump the posts with a screw driver, if it cranks and fires up id think the ignition harness is bad.

if he jumped the starter and it fired up, id change the ignition harness.

he can try banging on the column under the key, if it starts via the key after a little beating, its the harness for sure.

Sparky's Answers: 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, Changing The Ignition Switch heres a how to.

the harness runs from under the dash up the column to the key tumbler.

looks like this once out of the car.
