At least I hope that's what it is. Heard a VERY loud rattling under the hood only at idle and in gear. In the car it seems to go away when in neutral or park. Snatched off the SC belt....still rattling.

    Snatched off drive belt...rattling still.

Not seeing metal flakes on the dipstick. Rattling seems loudest on passenger side of engine bay.

    Ugh....used parts.

Could be a broken flex plate too, inspect it for cracks.

If you look at the front face of the balancer, it'll usually show cracks and if you pull/push on the belt, you'll see the outter ring move. That's how you can tell it's a balancer.

OK I'll try checking it that way too once I get the car into the shop at work.

Yup easy fix. Swapping over the L26 HB until I get the new one this weekend. Is there much difference between the L67 and L32 HBs?

No they are the same. I know its a little more spendy but the metal one from zzp is well worth the money, just make sure to get the standard sized one not the 5% od one, the 5% od one requires use of a spacer for the oil neck or else you will have one hell of a time putting belts on and you will need to dent your oil filter.

Be sure to line up the crank key with the balancer BEFORE you hammer the crank bolt back onto it. I know it sounds dumb, but it happens.

Come payday..ask yourself. If these things last 13+ years commonly.. why change it again?
