Does then pin that holds the csps come out?
The dowl pin stays in the cover as a guide to put the CPS back on. Glad it's off!!! Now for the timing stuff... Make sure you have the oil pump drive ring somewhere!!!! Don't lose it!!!
I got it all off thanks to your guys help.bottom just was tuff to get loose.that screw I mentioned on the oil pan is just a little dimple in the pan. I just didn't want to break anything lol.
Now looking at it will the cover off the bottom gear has a crack right where the key is so I'm sure that's the cause of that..I was hoping not to have to mess with the timing. but it will be easier to remove the key with it out anyways since it does run thought the gear.
Yep, you'll have to pull all the timing stuff, the key goes under all of it. It's not bad, just line it up and be careful not to turn the crank when the sprockets are off.
Did your oil pump drive piece slide off easily? Like I said before don't misplace it. LOL Also when you remove the cam sprocket, do you see the little black nipple sticking out toward you? Don't let it fall out and get lost. It's attached firmly, but still be careful. You are halfway there..

This is what I'm looking at now .I had to stop working on it to go into work.
DB.. you keep mentioning the oil pump drive piece. On the stock timing set it is the crank gear. On aftermarket sets it's seperate. Is there something I'm missing that you are trying to convey, because I'm a little lost on the continual mention about something that to me should be part of the crank gear.
*Smacks forehead* You know, now that you mention it it is one piece!!! I'm sorry, ignore me!!! LOL Carry on gentlemen!!!

No mines not supercharged those are just some random pics I found on Google.after looking at the bottom gear I was confused because I was thinking it was just one piece .but I guess it is lol
*facepalm again* Ok I'm stopping now, I seem to be causing more confusion then good!!!!![]()
hahahaha... Hey in my part of the how to in this thread..I mentioned if SC'd pull that thing. So at least he was familiar.
Man I can't seem to find a replacement key anywhere..really didn't wana drive 45 mins to go pull apart another motor for another used one at the yard
I'm sure someone on here has a spare key... I sold my old crank to the shop that did my heads because another guy there needed it... I have a crank in my old motor that has a hole in the block that's sitting on the stand, I'll try to break the crank bolt loose tomorrow but I've had NO luck doing it with two other motors. IF, I can get it loose I'll mail you the key I don't need it...
Post a thread in the "parts wanted" section and see if anyone has a spare crank they'd pull the key for you or maybe Bill has like 17 or so laying around.. LOL
If you still need the key I still have the one in my old motor if you need it. I'll be on vaca all next week so let me know before Sunday and I can get it in the mail ( PM me your addy).
Thanks guys everything is appreciated I went to the yard yesterday pulled one...got it all back together now...but on the cover where the gasket is there a gear and it has a dot like it needs to be lined up where do I line the dot up with?
you mean the timing dots on the crank and cam sprockets? if so they should be lined up dot to dot on the inside of the gear sets.
you should have turned the engine till the dots lined up, then took the crank sprocket off, that way it will be the same when you put it back on.
so you'll need to turn the crank, and the cam gears till they line up.
Correct I know what you are talking about Scotty, but I'm trying to find out which dot mpls is refering to. He said on the cover where the gasket goes there's a gear with a dot... Just trying to figure out which dot he's refering to because it's a bit misleading.
And mpls, Scotty's right. If you did not do your timing correct and try to turn the motor over, you will have VERY unhappy valves and a stripped crank key will be the least of your worries.

I had a buddy who's experienced with the timing I watched and let him explain it to me lol..I was referring to the dot on the oil pump.
