What's good with everyone? not much here, just at work bored, thought i might hit up the site and see if i could get some answers i have been driving myself nuts with lol!! Ok so i have a 99 pontiac grand prix gt, 184,000 miles on it,,pretty decent exterior, i just put a ram air hood on it recently, kept it in pretty good condition. I will have it paid off in March 2009. Well recently it started this light tapping noise, and wasn't sure what it was, well a few weeks went by and then it became a bangin noise!! then a few more weeks went by and it has subsided again? Took it to 5 mechanics including the dealership and they all told me something different, totally contradicting each other!!! Whats really crazy is the dealership told me for 600. they would tear it down, then tell me what else i would owe from there lmao!! As i said earlier it has a ton of miles on it, but i love this car, and want to keep it so i had already decided i was going to replace the engine once i got it paid off! (JUst hope it makes it till March!!) Anyways it has the 3.8 series II/non supercharged in it now, and im wanting to replace it with the L67 supercharged moter, and hd trans!! I guess my main question would be, is this a good choice? are there other engines that are better for my car as far as performance, would hook up the same!! I read an article on car domain where a guy said he had the L67, spun a rod bearing, and was now happy cause he could put in an L32 or L26? Wondering why he would like those better than the L67? Any answers are appreciated

why put an hd-trans in it? with the non-hd like you have now you have the good gearing (3.29s) and youre not going to blow it up unless youre beating on it a lot.

im still on my stock 130k mile gt trans and i beat on my car like it owes me money.

just use the right flexplate to go on whichever motor you decide. the l32 is the seriesIII supercharged motor, so it is better than the seriesII. the l26 is the seriesIII n/a motor, while yours is the seriesII n/a motor.

if you really want something special, get an l26 block with an l32 top end (heads and up).

Appreciate it bio, wasnt sure about the hd trans just thought it was part of the swap! still an apprentice when it comes to the engine thing, but my brain is like a sponge so im always willing to learn!! Well what would something like that cost, do you think? I plan on getting a loan from my bank as soon as it is paid off and using my car as collateral which should be a no brain'er for the bank because i am making the value of the car go up drastically by upgrading i plan on borrowing enough to purchase the engine and parts needed as well as the install...so i figured about 2500 or 3000 if i could find a decent used engine... what are your thoughts on this?

it really depends on what you want the car to do when youre done, how good you are with working on cars, and how much money you want to spend.

if you want an 11 second grand prix without using spray, get your wallet out ($5000+ maybe).

if you want a 13 second street beater to burn up some rice, thatll be about ~$1000.
