Hey guys i am thinking about getting an '84 s10 Blazer and it has a 2.8l in it. I was just wondering if a front wheel drive 3.8 would bolt to that tranny? Thanks

That truck will have an older 700R4 trans and the bellhousing for the 2.8 is the same but I cant remember if the starter is on the same side on the old ones as the newer 3800 engines are but I am pretty sure it is so you should be fine. The intake arrangement however is not going to work out for you. You could use a 95-98 F-body 3800 intake which will fit as the intake is set up for a rwd application. You will need the lower and upper intake manifolds as well as the exhaust manifolds. It may be a lot of work and some fabrication may be required and you arent going to know how things will fit until you drop the engine down onto the frame.
Thanks Trannyman. Im guessing there isnt too much difference in the RWD and FWD 3.8l other than the exhaust and intake manifolds then, correct?
That is correct, there are other differences though. Basically the longblock is the same and near ALL external bolt-ons are different. Here is a list of parts off the top of my head that are different between the FWD and RWD L36
-Upper and Lower intake manifold
-Exhaust manifolds
-Oil pan and pickup
-PS pump
-AC compressor and brackets
-Idler pulley and bracket for AC compressor
-Oil filter adapter
-Flywheel
-Oil dipstick tube
-Oil fill tube
-EGR valve
There are other minor differences but the block, heads, and internals are the same.
Ok so it would probably just be easier to put a 3.8l out of an f body then.
Haha i will but it will probably be a good while till i do it cause im goin to school and workin part time. So i kinda dont have too much money at the moment, but i thought it would be a kewl project after i get out of school and get a real job. But for now i think im just gonna get the blazer and park the GP for the winter.
Yeah you could just go get a camaro or firebird that has the 3.8L probably for next to nothing! Keep an eye out for one. This sounds like a good project cause we all know what a pooch the 2.8L is.
Haha yeah and whats even worse is this 2.8L is carbuerated. But yeah i was thinkin maybe a supercharger or turbo on the 3.8L also.
Ok well I went to look at that blazer yesterday and the rear quarters are all rotted out so i think im just gonna get new tires for the GP. Any suggestions on a decent cheap set?
Im laughing inside, seems like we all own an fbody and a GP.. haha.
If your still looking for a blazer I have one im trying to sell $2700 cash and you can have it....Here is what is done to it and what comes with it......http://peoria.craigslist.org/cto/908...l..........Let me know what you think I can email Pics to anyone intersted...
