my car chugged with a vac leak at the poopercharger. wasnt big either. but I agree Cats clogging are common on these
A severe exhaust restriction can cause your sysmptoms, (as I understand them). But first check and make sure there is NO banana in your tailpipe!
Please try the test of pulling the O2 and see how it runs. Experienced guys are giving you the suggestion from experience. We aren't guessing, we know the issue and simply want you to confirm it.
I planned on trying this after work today. ( I already said I can do that. ) But the question remains of how this can cause a over rich condition. Remember to car will run fine on starter fluid and fuel pump shutoff. But will only run at full throttle and no starter fluid with fuelpump on for 3 seconds. If the cat was clogged or any other part of the exhaust I assume the car would still have a huge problem running do to excessive back pressure..
How long did you mist starter fluid into it? It's often tough to get a good diagnostic off text and not being on hand. Many times some things are assumed based on previous posts etc.
If you are keeping it running for an extended period of time off starter fluid, but only getting a quick start off the fuel pump, then it sounds like security isn't reenabling your injectors. Double check wtih your owners manual that your light is doing the proper thing.
Ok. Took exhaust off after cat and no change. Then took cat off at y pipe and car started like normal!! So now the question is a bad cat or maybe something else... And is this normal or do I have a problem that caused the cat to go out?? Thanks again all.
so you took the down pipe off the engine, aka removed the cat? and it ran good again, loud but better?
if so your cat is clogged, get a new one.
