I am new here, thanks for letting me in, I am having trouble with my car can anyone recommend anything for me, here's the details. Returned from a long weekend and went Monday morn to go to work and it wouldn't start, a little starting fluid and it almost fired up so I checked fuel pressure and it was a big fat 0. I of course assumed it was the fuel pump (at 173k mile why not) I replace it and nothing still no pressure,no pump priming nothing. So I inspected all fuses under the hood and in the glove box, all were good. I then tried checking the fuel pump relay and manually tripping it the pump worked, so I replaced the relay and still nothing, it cranks over but does not start( of course still no pressure). There is no fuel pump resistor to replace on this model, so I have been stumped for a while now, but my new findings today are more confusing to me, when I turn the key to the on position before I try to start it the check engine light does not come for a few seconds like it should every time the car is turned on. So can someone please help out there, I can't ride my motorcycle every day, rain is coming. Thanks in advance.

go back to the fuel pump take the power plug off and test for power there.

you sure there's no resistor for the fuel pump, if you made it work with the relay out, by tripping it as you said, it sounds like a bad resistor. i think they hide in the fender by the battery. i never changed one so im not 100% sure.

99% sure there is no resistor, had the headlight off and checked all around, and I read where someone had mentioned that this model does not have one, also the auto parts store does not list one for that specific vehicle. My main concern is the cheek engine light does not come on, which I beleive that means the computer is not starting up for some reason, and with all fuse in good shape it can mean it is brain dead?

if you check the obd port, do any codes come up?(thats only if you have a scanner available). and if it was an ecm, if you have a junkyard around, they arent that expensive, or that hard to swap.

I'm a billion percent sure there's never been a resistor on an NA motor. And based on the symptoms ScottyDogger hasn't had a resistor go bad.

When the resistor goes bad..you get the fuel prime. Starts...stalls.

I'd check the fuel enable single from the pcm to the fuel pump relay. If bypassing works..then you are not getting the signal to turn the relay on.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

The way I enabled the fuel pump to work is I broke apart the old relay and with it installed in the relay spot I used a very small screwdriver and manually tripped the mechanism that is supposed to be moved electronically when told, I did not use any wires to use as jumpers, I was determining if the relay was being fed power and this showed me it was, so something is not telling it to turn on, which comes to my main question, why isnt the service engine soon light coming on at initial turn on for system check. Is there a fuse for the ecu other than in one of the two fuse panels or is there a relay that feeds the ecu.
