their might be some carbon buildup in the passage way leading to the egr valve. take it off and see if there's carbon buildup first before you do anything.

also,make sure when you post you give the specs of your car. model, engine, stock or modified.

Some good info on it. The diagnostic aids is where many of the issues are fixed.
