Hi my name is mike and on my 2000 grand prix my lower intake gasket went bad. I have replaced several of these with no problems. On this car it just will not start. I am getting fuel, spark, and my timming is corect. I have replaced the spark plugs. I had another freind come over and take a second look at my work and he couldnt find anything wrong. Any ideas? This ocured over a month ago. To me it sounds like a timming issue. The day it went out it never overheated. But it did loose power. before it died it blew out a big puff of white smoke out the tail pipe. Thanks in advanced. Mike

Mike..are you postive it was the lower intake and not the upper?

Take a read on the link below. It's very common for the upper to go and most misdiagnose it as a lower. The way to tell is if the LIM was full of coolant, that's the upper.

If you got the white puff etc. You may have wet plugs. Pull a front plug and check. I've had to blow out cylinders and dry plugs a number of times to get them to fire.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I forgot to mention that i did change both upper and lower gaskets. The lower intake was full of water when pulled apart. I will try drying things out.

    Did you say gaskets only?

And since you said the LIM was full of water... I'm seeing a huge flashing neon sign in front of you that says.. hope you read that link I posted for you.

You aren't starting..because the cylinders are filling with coolant.

If cracked already, I'd just replace the entire UIM and plug the ports while you're in there. And pull all the spark plugs out and disable the fuel (pull the pump fuse or something) and spin the motor over a few times to clear out the cylinders. Then clean the plugs off, reinstall, and fire her up. Would recommend changing your oil and filter as well to be sure any coolant that has crept into the motor where it doesn't belong get out before you spin a bearing.
