Hello, I am new to this forum.

    I have a 2005 Pontiac GP 3.8 Base Trim.

I have recently(2 weeks ago) had a mechanic to change all the spark plugs and wires, where he broke one of the spark plugs in the front and ended up
disassembling the front head assembly to take it out.
Then, the car had a leaking head gasket issue, so replaced that, and also a leak at the injector so the o-rings were replaced.

Now, I was driving on the highway(for the 6th time after the job mentioned above), and as soon as I accelerated ( 3500+ RPM) the engine light started flashing for about 5 seconds, and stopped flashing but stayed on.
So I stopped the vehicle to see what it was on the highway, Then I accelerated again and the car's rpm
went up to 3500 but from 3500 to 4500, it really struggled to go up, and the light flashed again.

Seems like the engine doesn't struggle under 3000 RPM, but to anything beyond that it stops at 3300 for a second then goes up to 3800 stops again, then goes up again and stops every 700 rpm or so.
and the engine light is still on.

Could the experts here help me diagnose what the problem might be?

    Thanks

If the CEL is flashing at acceleration it usually is meaning a misfire.

That or destroy the cat which will take out the engine as well.

Cat could be the problem at this point.

The issue is you need to diagnose the symptoms and eliminate potential causes.

My issue with that is: if they are so incompetent that they did that, then do you REALLY want them working on your vehicle?

I just don't know how they would do that on the front head. I could see possibly the rear doing it but no excuses on the front.

I would strongly recommend hooking up with someone who has a quality scan tool. Record the stored DTC(s) and if possible, road test and monitor which cylinder(s) are misfiring. Your problem could be something as simple as a plug wire not fully seated. I doubt your misfire is fuel related so focus your attention on your secondary ignition system as the cause of your misfire. Best of luck

Thanks a lot everyone. It has been 2 days since I got the engine light, and I am not taking it back because I do not trust them, so I would rather spend more money and get it fixed somewhere else properly.

I am going to take to a local shop and see if he can diagnose it and fix the issue.

Again, Thanks for taking the time to reply to my thread.
