Occasionally when I start my car there will be a loud spooling sound after the engine starts. It sounds like I'm holding it in start too long, but I know I'm not. It doesn't do this every time, but often enough to want it fixed. Anyone know what the problem is?

I can believe that, it's nasty down there.

    Think that's all it is?

if the starter gear is hanging up aka not returning, it could be real dirty, or the starter solenoid could be on its way out. its the part where the wires bolt on the starter and is replaceable vs buying a new starter.

It could also need a shim added/deleted.

I'm thinking that's a distinct possibility since the salesman had the flexplate replaced, and so far I'm not a fan of his work.

He had it replaced by "his guy" around October of last year, I bought the car this February. He said he thought the motor was bad and bought another one to replace it but when they pulled it out they found out it was just the flywheel so they replaced it and put the motor back in.

I'm pretty sure he gets all his parts (and cars) from junk yards and auctions (several parts of my engine had auction numbers), and after what I've seen of his work and the things he neglected to tell me - on top of the things he blatently lied about - I wont be going back. Plus I've already decided to do all my own work on this car.
