I just purchased a stock l67 and i want to pull the top off and do a top swap on my l36. Im not changing the tranny so i was wondering what kind of tune i would need since the non hd trans had higher gears. Should i buy the pcm off zzp? Or would it be better to tune my pcm? Thanks for any help!

swap the entire motor in and be done with it.

if the trans is the same then you dont have to do anything with the trans file.

you need an L67 motor file and then tune from there.

Find a local to custom tune it.

That's better than ZZP's canned PCM anyways.

Also, check out the Top Swap sticky at the top of the section you clicked on to post this thread for lots more info.

Ocala? your not that far from me. oh wait your not the one needing the tune.

to the OP. for what you are asking you will need a 2001 GT file with the stock trany files and tables from the gtp inserted. it all depends on how your setting it up.

    diff:
-Injectors- could run l36 or l67 to run the l67 you will have to update this in the GT bin
-MAP- if running the l36 no change is needed. if l67 then you will need this in the bin and change the connector on the harness for it
-BBV solenoid- if you run a l36 file you will not plug this in. if you run a GTP file you will need to wire this connector into the pcm.
-all of the fuel and spark tables will need to be swapped with a GTP-
-if you are just dropping the l67 top end on the l36 you need to either pulley Up and go to a larger pulley or add mods to compensate. the l36 is higher compression and i have heard that a stock 3.8" pulley on a l36 is like having a 3.4 on a l67.

as all cars are different i would strongly suggest having someone local tune it in person. you can order a pcm but you will still need to have something to scan your car and make sure it is safe. and if it isnt then you need to send the PCM off and get it fixed. if you have someone local do it the tune will be much closer much faster then doing it by mail. even if you get a mailed PCM there is a lot of room for improvement by having someone local tweak the tune. even if it is only a MAF tune.

now if you take Bio248's advice and swap the entire engine, then you will need to swap the MAP connector, add the BBV to the harness, and use a GTP file and just change the trany settings to GT settings. this setup will be much safer as you are low compression and not cracking into the heads and opening everything up.
