Some back history on the car. Neighbor kids car. 2002 GT with the NA L36. All gaskets have been updated/upgraded etc etc. Car went for an emissions test in November and would start and die after coming out and being turned off. Security light was flashing and pissy. I pulled out the DHP tuner and told the pcm to ignore it's fuel disable signal from the theft deterrent module. This allowed the car to start and run w/o problems, leaving the security light flashing. Told the kid to bring it back to me when I had some time and it wasn't 2*F outside. I ordered two new keys and told her to have them cut at Walmart so we could program them to make the security happy. We all know that since it ran, the car never returned for the issue. Around early March, she mentioned the fuel gauge would act up. I suggested she buy a sender. Again..we all know..the car didn't return for that.

Last night she pops over to hang out with her mom and a couple others... I went to bed about 11pm and around midnight I heard some commotion and decided not to join in. This morning the car is in still in the driveway. Symptoms: Starts and dies. And of course, as expected the security light is flashing because it's been flashing since November.

    Where should I start:
Put some fuel in the tank?
Bypass the pcm's control over the fuel pump relay? Seems odd the programming I did somehow could have reversed itself.
Pour gas on the car, light it and walk away. We all know GP's catch on fire easily.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I like the way you think Justin.

It's not the fuel pump shutting off. Haven't checked pressure yet.

    Checked the MAF, not that.
    Checked the pump, not that
Reflashed the code to keep the pcm from disabling the pump/turning off the injectors. Not that
Put gas in the car, not that.

Starting to wonder about the pcm.

Got the keys cut. At the very least, there is no more than 1 key for this car. Relearning the key for theft at the moment.

I'm seeing the below as possibilites.
    Crank sensor
    PCM
    Key
    Theft deterent module.

Anyone with DHP that has disabled theft, please tell me how you've done it. I did it through security flash checksum set to 1 and disable flash security set to 255. Dunno if that's right because it started back in November after I did that.

BTW, might be shooting myself in the foot on this one. I rolled the car into the flat and level garage vs the slightly sloped driveway. Started relearning the key before trying to see if it stays running on level ground.

If it starts..I'm going to use the security light as my guide. If it starts and the light flashes still, it's fuel level and the theft deterent module is likely fried or a bad fuse.

Strikes me as a pcm issue. Or wiring to/from it. Good luck!
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

    Best answer is ...maybe.

After bringing it into the garage and key learning it. The car fired and stayed running. Security light was still flashing and the pcm is still programmed to ignore the VTD (vehicle theft disable) signal. Meaning..the key learn didn't seem to fix anything. The fuel in the tank...may have been a factor, however I drove to a steep hill and idled the car down it. No stall. Upon bringing the car back to it's owner, I got more info.

The car had been remote started and was running for 10-20 minutes in the driveway. She got in, maybe didn't put the key in all the way and pressed the brake pedal which killed the engine as it should. Trying to start it after that gave a start and die.

I've seen low fuel act this way. I've seen many other things do the same. Problem is..it's intermittent at this point. I shotgunned a spare crank sensor onto it. The fact that it was remote started, after that..is when it acted up. I'll be checking on the remote start, but it felt differently.

That's why I've always said, unless it comes from the factory.. Don't put a remote start system in a car.

had a montana in the shop for a start then dies... major vac leak at the pcv valve. not that i think that's your problem though, i just wanna be subscribed so i can learn something. if you want to get away from the security thing for awhile, maybe you could look at the wiring/connections going to the fuel pump? one loose connection might temporarily not be able to hold all the current going to it, sounds like a shot in the dark though. in my experience, a problem with the security system keeps the car from cranking altogether. can't you see any DTC's in the control module? or maybe think about something that would cause a problem with the VTD, like a dicked up remote start.
99 GT - top swapped, S2X cam. - sadly, sold
    96 Firebird Formula - T-tops and exhaust leak. 14.26 @ 97.8 - sold
2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS - stock, in all of it's turbocharged awesomeness
