The problem mainly happens at idle. It will start and run for a few seconds, then dies. Sometimes it will run for a minute or 2 before it dies. It died on me 1 time in a week so far when I was on a gravel road at about 25 mph, but this is the only time it has died while on the road. It seems as the only time it is a problem is at an idle.

I had the codes checked and found a coolant temp code, a mil circuit code, and a catalyst code.

I think I fixed the coolant code today. I replaced the stuck open thermostat.

Would a dirty MAF sensor or throttle body cause it to die all the time like this or am I way off track? I did the unplug the MAF sensor deal as I seen some people say to do in similar posts and it didn't seem to make a difference at first but after about 30 it starts idling up and down then dies, so this makes me wonder if it's not the problem.

    Any help guys?

Unplug the maf, then get the car running and keep it running for 2-5 minutes. After that..then see if you still have stalling issues. You need to give it a chance to learn it's idle etc w/o an actual reading.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Did you happen to write down what codes you actually got? That would be helpful.

    P0650
    P0128
    P0420

Really hope the codes help cause this thing is driving me crazy! It is now dying while going down the road quite often, so it is now an emergency fix.

These should help. You might want to try and search for the P0650.

You may want to try and replace the O2 sensor to see if that fixes the P0420 code.

    P0128
OBD-II Trouble Code: P0128 Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature)

    P0420
P0420 Error Code: Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

When I got the codes and seen the coolant and catalyst codes together I assumed they were related, as with a newer car these days it is possible. So that being said, Thursday when I put the new thermostat in I did the old fashion unhook the battery for 10 minutes to reset the light and so far the light has not come back on for the same problems. It did come back on for one key cycle when I unhooked the MAF and let it run for 10 mins, shut off plugged it back in a restarted it. The very next cycle it turned itself back off as I plugged the sensor in. I'm pretty sure an o2 sensor has nothing to do with this cars problems, as it does not run like crap at idle or on the highway, it gets around 25 mpg with prolly 50/50 hwy/city miles. Also iirc if the ecm (ecu whatever you wanna call it) sees an o2 sensor bad for 2 run cycles it would turn the light back on, correct?

Well I guess when you know nothing about a car is the only time you can get some help. Obviously when you post something that shows you know something about a car no one is willing to help anymore. That's cool tho, I wont be back here. Forum admin please delete my account.
