Thread: loud A/C

just curious, do grand prixs usually have a loud ac compressor? when my ac is on there is a growling noise that is connected to rpm. its loudest at 3000 rpm

Then more than likely the AC is going out. Mine did that for about a week or two, then the clutch totally gave out, and anytime I had the AC engaged, it would knock and rattle like all hell.

If you kill the AC, does the noise go away?

its a brand new ac compressor. i had it replaced because the last one was growling and started to make a really loud knocking noise when it was on. so far the new one hasnt made the knocking noise but it does growl on hot days when i accelerate. its a bit louder than the engine. when its off i dont hear it at all. is this just a normal noise when the compressor has to work hard?

Mine was whisper quiet in 100degree plus days...It might be a defective compressor...

Then again, it might just be normal. If the noise changes any, then take it back to where you got it, and tell them whats happening, and that you'd like to swap it for another unit.
