New GP owner just bought a 2002 GP GT 88600 mi. Car will not go above 4200 rpms if you are in drive or manually shifting the car with light, moderate or heavy acceleration it does not matter. Also in drive when you hit passing gear the transmission will kick down but will hang up at 4200 until you back off the gas a little then will shift into drive. Not sure if this is related but while in park if you rev the engine I get a rattling sound from the area of the catalytic converter but not all the time. And when I hit 4200 rpms I get a service engine soon light comes on but does not stay on. Nothing else seems wrong with the car or should I say nothing that I am familiar with have only had the car a few weeks any help guys

Flashing CEL is usually a multiple misfire. Probably needs a tune up

Yep. Plugs, wires, fuel and air filter. Then clean the MAF. Reset the computer once this is done and let it relearn and see what you get.

If this doesn't solve the entire issue, then it may be a clogged cat.

    Definately.

It's almost funny how many "transmission" problems can be fixed w/o touching the transmission.

Tune up and holler if that doesn't clear it up.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
