I thought I had this posted and I guess I was mistaken. Parked to go in store, came out, car will start, then immeidately stall. Fuel pump is running, unplugged MAF, no change, replaced MAP, starts way better with no idle bouncing that it used to have, but still falls flat on it,s face within 3 seconds... It starts EVERYTIME, just dies immediatly there after. If you start it and gun it it will skyrocket to whatever it's limited too in park, and stall immediatly.

Any thoughts, I was thinking Crank sensor from here?

Ive never seen the immobilizer go out on these cars, but thats what it does if you disconnect it. Runs for a few seconds then stalls. The reason I think the problem is with the Theft Deterrent Module is cause you can give it gas and it still dies.

I'm not sure how the "security": works in these cars, So I won't rule it out, but how in heck do I check it?

I really dont know how you would check it....One thing I would do, is disconnect your battery for about 10 mins and if it is the TDM, maybe it will reset.

I definetly feel it is/was security related... This morning, my route puts me within a few minutes of where the car was so I went by it, proceded to LOCK the cart with key first, then unlock it, about half the time the car doesn't unlock all the doors anyways..this time it did, but also my radio lights are working (after months of it not working) and the car started better then it ever had before ( replaced map sensor has made a 100 percent difference), and ran.... Being as I was in another vehicle kinda hard to drive it home... My wife and I will go get it later this morning... My sig says it ALL... Damn thing is a basket case...

If it happens again, try the FP relay for the resistor bypass. Your symptoms seem more like that than security, but you can check by looking at the Security light and learning what it should be doing with key in/on and starting.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Yea something I DIDN'T see that I WAS seeing was the security light when key went from LOCK->ON ... also the little light in the dash did something I've never seen it do either which was blink 3 times really fast it appeared, which could easily have been a trick on my worn out eyeballs.

I'm finding it hard to believe it's the pump when you can hear the pump running pretty much the whole time, including engine off reprime. I had to replace the pump in the parking lot of the bank a few weeks back, Dummy me ran it out of fuel for the 100th time ( the gauge didn't work and I was on my way to the gas station, that's why I was at the bank! ) Ran outta gas, put 2-1g cans in it, failed to fire, pump died miserably. Luckily our cars are blessed with a nice and easy access panel that made the job a simple breeze. Not to mention I had to REDO it in the gas station parking lot because I obviously didn't have the monster o-ring seated properly... another whole 15 minutes in the job.. lol.. The pump that was put in was a JY one out of another 97. 97 is a standalone year for fuel pumps it appears. the 98+ have a second plug that is used. All in all it's really nice becuase now my gas gauge works properly, the only downfall is the pump is so loud it's borderline irritating.

I love my GP... I have GMPP sways to replace both front and rears that are snapped on opposite sides ( don't ask, I don't know, was that way when I bought it)... I'm not crawling on the snow / ice to replace them at the current moment, then it's off for tires and alignment... hopefully I'll get it all done this weekend, I am SUPPOSED to be in Minneapolis Monday, I think that's getting rescheduled HAHAHA...

I had a similiar problem upon startup except all my accessories worked properly, security was flashing then turned solid i tried do a RELEARN to my keys, it helped me enough to get the car home then same thing again, within a week a replaced the ignition cylinder the battery and finally the body control module (also known as the theft module) under the dash on my 2000 gp gt... once i installed it and did a relearn on the keys again my car runs fine now, i just resolved this problem today as a matter of fact, so if you crawl under the dash on the drivers side look to the left side and there are 2 boxes one of which i believe are youre daytime running lights module and to the right of it is a bigger box with 2 harnesses going into it thats your bcm, check the part number on it, gm had a service bulletin on it for malfunctions and its a very common issue with these cars between 98-2004 the part number starts with either 103 104 or also 105 i believe mine happened to be 103 and the part was superceded by a 104 part number which is a revised model with less issues supposedly....sorry for the long explanation however i feel your pain so i figured id give some fairly detailed info let us know how it works out....btw a new bcm from gm is roughly about 200-260 and another 100 to program it unless you get lucky as i did and find a used one with the correct number used CHEAP lol good luck

Well my ignition switch is shot anyways... It likes to keep the "start" posistion live. but I will keep this in mind if the problem worsens or becomes an issue.
