    you mean without?

Because you could just cut it.

Make it shorter but leave mabye 1" and the sidewalls of the insert intact so its still somewhat structurally sound.

You should get one of those spiffy metal intake manifolds with the idler pulley like this:
    Sig2
    30%, 5000k's, GMPP/Addco Sways, BMR Braces/Arms, FE3 Struts, WBS Springs, 12" w/ SS Lines & F-Bodies. Wiz, HVTB, HV3, CPlog, Shift Kit, ZZP 1.0, Alt/Volt Boost, Etc.

You need a little runner length. How about shaving down your stock runner insert?

I have an HV3, I would suggest shaving down the stocker; it was not worth the $150 I paid for it used. A Dremel is going to save you a Lot of money if you own a 3800.

My HV3 looked completely different than my stock runners in every way...
I personally will not recommend that you trim yours because who knows what could happen.
Wait until you find one used if you can't afford new, but in all honesty, if you can't afford the mods, you shouldn't be modding your car anyway.

^^^True that if you can't afford mods, you shouldn't mod it. I would suggest saving/planning and scoping for deals.

    Or just buy this one...

    http://www.grandprixforums.net/fs-or...zzp-42823.html

From what I've read/heard the HV insert is only good in the upper (3500+) RPM band. How long during daily driving does your car live at or above these rpms?

Personally I'd save the money and put it towards other things. If I want to go faster I'll top swap and call it a day.

That doesnt make any sense, why cut it if you're removing it.

Lol. Thats because they did it the smarter way.

But its so much more expensive just to get rid of a small restriction.

Unless they literally warp, then they're good for the modding.

These engines dont need any power below 3500, the manifolds ensure we have more than enough torque down there.

Top swaps start at one grand and you'd be wasting your time if you didn't jump straight for heads and cam since its all apart. That puts it at 2 plus.

    Now you're into turbo range.

They're also much less engine invasive.

Just keep an eye out for the newest gen HV3, they can be had for around $100. I think I got mine for 120 brand new from another user. I wouldn't suggest cutting the stock runners.

You really shouldn't need a new gasket. Just clean up the old one. They are plastic and rubber, so unless yours is trashed for some reason it'll be fine.
