I have read a lot of the threads about these two items. However, it is hard to to put all the info together because i get confused by the acronyms (DHP, PCM) and terminology. I have a 2002 Grand Prix GT. Common engine symptoms such as engine sputtering and loss of power when driving uphills or giving lots of gas is occurring and is getting worse everyday . Much of the solutions i have read are new plugs and wires, O2 sensors, and new Cat Converter. I already put new plugs and wires on. I have a buddy who says he can just gut the cat converter since a clogged cat is a common issue. Without going into detail on he does it, if he was to do that, would i even need to have 02 sensors? For legal reasons, i do not want to do this cause i'm not sure if Indiana has emission laws, but i really need to get this fixed asap. If this is not a good idea, then whats the best solution in dealing with clogged cats and O2 sensors. I would like to avoid buy a new cat converter since they are always getting clogged. Also I have no interest in adding any mods, i just want my grand prix run right. I am desperate for anyones help and i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

If he was to gut your cat, you'd throw a code and not pass emissions. And yes, you need your o2 sensors, both of them. If you do decide for him to gut your cat(I assume you mean hollow it out when you say gut), you'd need this: $5 o2 cheater/non fouler how-to - evolutionm.net. And new o2 sensors aren't a bad idea based on how old they are.
