Whats up. I recently brought a 97 GP SE w/ 82,000 miles. The car ran great since i got it in July. Last month i planned to take a trip to upstate ny so i decided to check on the minor things ( since im a beginner on working with cars lol ). My air filter looked like it hadnt been changed since '97 so i changed it, plus the pcv valve. The next morning my engine light came on. Took it to autozone.....code was P0171 ( too lean ). Long story short, when i start the car the car idles high and white smoke comes out the exhaust. The smoke comes out only when i start it up. Now my low oil level light is on as well. I looked near the plenum and see what looks like oil puddles in the front n back. Someone please help me out. Its my first V6 car and it runs great...dnt wanna get rid of it. Thanks

You need to change the LIM gaskets.

AND MAKE SURE...you get the GM aluminum ones...you'll want to buy new vacuum lines for the LIM and the EVAP too, since yours are most likely dry rotted or will tear when taking it apart...good thing about buyin' it all now is that you'll never have to worry about them again...also...if you scour a junkyard...try and get rid of that nasty factory 97 air box...anything '99-'03 is WORLDS better. If the funds allow it...get rid of the U-Bend in the exhaust too...even if its just a daily driver...it'll help longevity of the engine since it will be able to breathe better, you'll see better MPG's AND better performance out of it too. Next step after that...dexcool...flush it out for some regular green or yellow stuff.

Did you also make sure you seat the pcv valve correctly and put the line on correctly?
Since getting a lean code after messing with the pcv valve probably means something there isn't seated correctly. Also the smoke could be from the pcv valve sucking up the oil you have puddling up.

does the pcv valve suppose to just sit in that hole?? It seems like its not secure underneath the MAP sensor ...

    Whoa...late to this one too.

Most likely you missed the o-ring on the bottom of the pcv or the gasket under the cover is leaking a ton of air. I would double check both of these before jumping into an LIM gasket job. The LIM's don't typically leak/cause that big of an issue all of a sudden.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

The o ring from the last pcv valve i left it alone....and when u say the gasket under the cover...do u mean the manifold or the map sensor??? Also there's a strong suction of air in the oil dipstick
