does anyone have a 1.0 pcm that runs 87 gas? i was just wondering how much of a loss in performance you lose. Im thinking about getting one and dont want to pay money for premium i just want to stay with 87.

You do know that it is only like 3 dollars more per tank to fill up with premium.

I put 500 miles a week for my commute. Throw in another 100 for the weekend. Figure that's probably 3 fillups a week. $9 a week, Nearly $500 a year. And that's if I don't intend to take a long trip anywhere. You willing to give me that Blitz? I'll happily drive my Imp every day.

Wait, you're only getting 200 miles on a tank of gas? I would be crying too if it were me, holy cow. Even my Isuzu gets a tick over 400 miles on a tank and I drive on average about 500 miles a week to and from work, weekend driving and so on.

If you are truly only getting 200 miles out of a tank, there is something else going on, thats horrible mileage. Not bashing on you or anything, Im just saying that is extremely low for a 3800 Engine.

No, not getting 200 miles per tank. But I don't drive it until the "LOW FUEL" light comes on, and gas is cheaper near my house than my job. So I fill up just about every other day. I usually have 1/4 to 3/8 of a tank left. And again, that assumes all I do is drive to work, then drive home, no stops in between.

when i had this pcm there was a noticable difference with 93 when ya downshifted at like 25 to 30. you can run 87 in it with no promblems it just wont feel as peppy, plus you will notice a difference over the stock pcm runin just 87 so its up to you want ya want to pay for

pcm is a very good modd really helps the car out... as far as engine it should help to protect it by enriching fuel at wot to keep kr down. as for the tranny it will help protect the clutches from wearing out but will put more stress on the hard parts so tranny life goes down a bit but that depends on your driving. personely i like the intense pcm over the zzp, it felt better on the downshifts
99 Grand Prix old build- CAI, Custom exhaust, HV3, Stage 2 TB, custom tune, ported heads intense s1x cam, headers.
Nothing great Just a small T66 Turbo with a Hv3 On a stock tranny untill i finish the other one.

If you want to run 87 octane, your safest bet is find some way to scan your engine while you are doing so. Yes, it can be done. I am currently running 89 octane. But, it can be harmful to your engine if you don't keep an eye on it.

So unless you are prepared to spend some cash to buy a scanner or tuner, I would keep running 93 octane.

But FWIW, my tuner was $400. In the past 1.5 years that I have had it, I have probably saved almost that in fuel mileage.
