Hey guys I"ve been reading the forums for a while but this is my first actual post. I have an 02 gt that I started modding a little bit ago when I wasn't really sure what i wanted out of the car. I figured I'd eventually just buy a newer gtp eventually but now I'm not really sure.
Either way, I have a pretty basic gt setup with 180 stat, CAI, ZZP DP, and ZZP HV3. I'm going back to college soon and just want to get a little bit more pep out of the car. I'm not looking for anything too crazy until after i can get the triple edge tranny in, then i'll decide on a turbo or top swap.

I've been waiting for the PLOG to be in stock for a few months now and I'm not sure when that will happen at this rate. ZZP doesn't seem to have any information either. If i get an overkill or intense racing can tune should I wait until after I get the PLOG? The only other mod I'm thinking about in the near future before the tranny would be ER rockers. I'm just not sure if I would be missing out by getting the tune now and then getting the plog and rockers after and needing to get it retuned, I really don't know anywhere in NEPA who does tuning

Just another quick question, I know stock gtp's are faster then heavily modded N/A's and i wish i planned my modding better, but how much faster is a stock gtp over a gt with hv3, plog/dp, rockers, cai, and tune. I know the estimated HP you actually get goes down with the more mods, but it sounds like it would be atleast relatively close to 240 crank

Sorry for the long post, any advice would be appreciated

IMO get the tune now, a PLOG install is no reason to wait. And the ER rockers, those are a great compliment to the HV3. However I’m concerned that your emissions might suffer. IIRC your state has emission checks. I’d ask around before jumping into the rockers.

Ten years of continuous driving excitement and counting!

Tuned PCM is where it is at. That'll make a worlds difference...buy one from 3800 Performance it is a DHP PCM...the best mail order tunes ever for these cars.

Also...instead of waiting for a PLOG...and for free...just yank off the front manifold and hog it out with a grinder or dremel...might not make a butt dyno difference but you'll be happy knowing that all those sh1tty factory castings are out of the way.

Okay, I'll have to check around and see what others say about the rockers and emissions tests around here. Blue, are you talking about the HP Tuners VCM Suite on 3800's site? I've never tried to tune before so I should probably do some reading before I jump into anything

I would get hp tunners now and do it before and after the exhaust. I would spend the extra mney and get a full header over the plog.

You can be close in HP numbers but you gotta remember the Gtps have a good amount of torque through out the powerband where our Gts are only good in low end. You may be able to keep up, but even all your mods plus a cam only makes a little more power than a stock L67. I know its very depressing...thats why alot go top swap.

    You said heavily modded...but what about "hv3, plog/dp, rockers, cai, and tune"...that ain't heavily modded...those are a few bolt-ons. To me...heavily modded is race trans/ported L67/bigger injectors/P&P'd heads/big cam/headers/stroker kit, etc.

I know of a GT2 cammed 3800 SE with PEM's, HV3, 180*, 3" Single Exhaust all the way back, 3" catless DP, solid mounts, custom dyno tuned, GTP Injectors/GTP TB and it would nose on a GTP with a FWI/U-Bend Delete everytime. Pretty sure it ran a 14.7 vs. the GTP's 14.9. GTP was kinda tired...had about 230K...even still...that N/A car ran its ass off.

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like im just gonna keep saving towards the tranny and top swap. I don't know enough about camming these cars yet. You need to re-tune after adding GTP injectors and throttle body right?
