I really think it's the dealer you are dealing with. My Camaro was eating a quart every 1500 when I first bought it. That was what they had told me. I changed over to synthetic on the next oil change, never saw that again.

Geo : really? I havent talked to a dealer yet. My GP used around 1/2 a quart in 2500 miles which seemed a bit odd for an semi modern engine with 23,000 miles on it.

I just did my first oil change since I bought the car (with 23K on it) I filled it up with Mobil 1 5w30. We'll see how it does. I'm not too concerned honestly. If I need to do the valve stem seals at one point I will.

Yes. Now, something to keep in mind: I bought my SS new on Halloween of 1999. I was back there around Thanksgiving of that year.

That Mobil 1, was it the synthetic? That's what I used on my first oil change. After that I used Royal Purple.

geo : all mobil 1 is synthetic to my knowledge. So yes. I used that along with a pureone filter. Changed it a week ago.

You like the royal purple alot?

    I do, yes.

But not as much as I love Amsoil. That stuff... wow. Long story about it that I'll have to share someday.
