I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8L, 135K miles.
Within the last several months, sometime after a fuel injector cleaning & walmart and me replacing the PCV. The car has started making a loud whining noise under the hood. It sounds like it is coming from the Throttle Body, but I am not sure. It is now cold and when I initially start the car it does not have the whining sound, however after about 5 or 6 miles of driving it starts. Also, the car will have idling issues. Where it will almost die and then it will rev back up. Check engine light is on and a local mechanic checked the codes and he said it is caused by an airflow issue.
.
I have cleaned the MAS and the idle air control. Also disconnecting the MAS does not correct the problem. It is also not the Power Steering Pump as it was also making its standard noise and a little fluid fixed it right up.
What would cause this whining noise and idle issue?
Also, I am a newbie. I have change brakes, PCVs, and other simple stuff. Don't mind getting my hands dirty, but I pulling the tranny or even replacing the spark plugs on my GT is out of my league.
I do plan on picking up something to test the pressure in the Throttle Body this week and see what I find.
Finally. I love my Grand Prix. Best car I have ever owned especially with it paid off.
