... could this be the primary problem that is causing my car to have no power? If I am going up a slight incline, I'm lucky if my car reaches 35 MPH. On level ground, a little faster. It often has problems shifting into the next gear is what it seems to me. If I'm sitting in park and reving my engine, everything sounds and performs normally. The transmission only has about 120K miles on it. I checked the fluid and it's not low. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

your cat is pluged....it happeded to my sisters monte carlo, just crack the downpipe at the front end, before the cat so most of the air can get out and drive it then.

Two bolts before the catalytic converter. Loosen them and separate the two pipes and see if the problem goes away. It will be loud but will rule out the problem as being a plugged cat or not.

ya just as he said unbolt it before the cat and try to pull it away to get a good size gap.

Just pull out the 02 sensor and drive it to see if it runs better.

if u pull out the o2 sensor that will do no good to determine if the cat is bad, unless you are talking about the front one, but that is a pain.

Yeah the front one. It is easy to take out $10 02 sensor socket and an extension. I have taken out many 02 sensors never stripped any threads. Broke lots of dp bolts/stripped nuts tho.

if u got the right stuff the down pipe bolts are easy too. But I get what you are saying, most people will crank until they round off the bolts then there SOL.

Now matter what you have down pipe bolts break a lot more than 02 sensor threads strip.

Thanks guys... I live in an apartment and have a small garage, so it's extremely difficult to work on my car. I took it to a garage and they told me that my cat is bad. He said it looks like it's been ran that way for quite a while. I told him it's only been 2-3 wks and he didn't believe me. He also said I need an O2 sensor (I knew that). He quoted me $346 for the cat and $70 to install. I'm gonna buy my own cat for about $150 to $200 and have a buddy install it for next to nothing. He knows what he's doing too. Of course, I don't see why it would be that difficult. If I had a bigger garage I'm sure I could do it myself. I also need new spark plug wires and plugs. Any other time in my life this wouldn't be a problem, but I'm laid off now, and money is tight. Gotta roll with the punches I guess. Thanks again guys.

just buy a whole new down pipe, you can get a used stock one for under $50 if you look for one. Your o2 sensor is probably ok too.
