triple edge performance aka trannyman can flash your pcm unless you can find someone local
1. Disconnect battery for 10 sec.
2. Reconnect battery
3. Turn key to ON position
4. Do not try to start vehicle, just quickly click to RUN position to engage security light
5. Let vehicle sit with key ON for 35 min.
6. Attempt to crank vehicle. Once vehicle is running, the security light may still be on
7. If security light is still on, turn key to OFF position for 5 sec.
8. Turn key to ON position and security light should turn off
9. Start vehicle and enjoy new PCM
Hey PWNED, I just followed your instructions and while I was doing that I did not observe the security light, it never came on..... when I went to start the car it started for one second then shut immediately off. any ideas?
I am hesitant to go get the PCM flashed because that will cost me like 100 bucks and the car right now is throwing me a P1810 code, So I dont want to spend the money to flash the PCM to adapt the new trans then have to turn around and replace the trans anyway.... do you guys understand what I'm trying to say?
thanks for all the help guys
That is the incorrect method. Here is the right one.
1. Disconnect battery
2. Install new computer
3. Reconnect battery
4. Put emergency brake on to disable daytime running lights (this step is required!)
5. Make sure all doors trunk and hood are closed leave driver window down and reach in threw window
6. Try to start. If it doesn't start, leave the key in the on position for 10 min on 97-03 cars and 15 min for 04 and newer cars. The security light should turn off after this amount of time.
7. Turn off ignition for 3 seconds
8. Try and start the car. It probably won't start. Repeat step 5 two more times.
9. If this doesn't work disconnect battery for 5 seconds and then try and start the car.
I just tried that..... the security light never came on... car did not start... I guess I will just have to take my chances and get the PCM flashed.....
thanks for all the input though!
Yes. But it still would be best to have someone tune it.
I believe the 03+ 4t65e's might need an 03 gtp pcm in order to work on a 98 gtp. I doubt the 03 regal pcm will work on the 98 gtp, you should try flashing an 03 gtp supported file to the pcm. Find a tuner locally, could cost between $50-150 to tune, maybe $50-100 more if you need to get an 03 gtp pcm.
The 98 pcm works fine for starting the car, but the hardware on the pcm is different for the 03 transmissions I believe. The 03 regal pcm would not start the car for a few possible reasons also.
My above post I got off zzp's website. Only trying to help.
