Hi. was wondering if any one can help with this problem I have.. my 97 gp gt is burning a fair bit of antifreeze.. I notice it blows a bit of white smoke from the tail pipes but not alot. Ive been keeping my eye on it and the antifreeze is not going into the oil so I know its not the head gasket and the oil is not going into the rad so i figured its not the intake gaskets.. Does any one have any suggestions. Thanks

How do you know that the antifreeze isn't going into the oil? I've always been curious to know how people KNOW these things and they're so sure of it...

I think I know what's wrong with your motor, but I'm just curious how you know

The oil is not milky after being run. That's how you can tell.

The 3.8L doesn't usually suffer head gasket issues. The L36 or naturally aspriated 3.8L suffers from a poorly designed upper intake manifold or UIM. The EGR gasses flow through the (plastic) manifold, on the other side of the EGR passage is the ports for the coolant to the TB. The plastic cracks, LIM fills with coolant and soon you are burning it or hydrolocked.

I suggest changing the LIM gaskets while the UIM is off.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

UIM and/or head gaskets. YOu pretty much just described exactly what happens when head gaskets fail.

a bad radiator can cause your coolant and transmission fluid to mix, since the transmission uses the radiator too. how does your transmission fluid look?

this would not explain white smoke coming out of the exhaust, but a blown head gasket would.
