I LOVE my new 08 Grand Prix V6 and I thinks its quick but wouldn't mind a little faster acceleration so I bought a K&N drop in filter.

So I finally got around to buying a K&N drop in air filter and I can tell a small difference in acceleration. It's not a HUGE difference but definitely worth $40.

The point in this thread is to ask you guys if there are any other Cheap, easy to install mods for my car that will help with acceleration? (I don't care about top end speed)

Thanks a bunch!

read the safely modding your 3800 thread in the general tech section...it has tons of info. You could make your own fenderwell intake for about the same price as you just bought your filter for........good luck with the mods... downpipe....plog...tune is a huge one.... HV3...and of course the FWI

Get a tuned PCM or have a local guy tune it. Most people say there is a huge difference. It's like a hundred bucks on zzp plus core charge, only downside is if your not already running premium fuel you'd have to start

That's a ridiculous comment and un-needed!

Sure the drop in filters aren't as great as a fender well intake or a cold air intake but they are better than nothing. The thing that causes the MAF to go bad is from when people clean their filters and over oil them when they use the Recharge Kit.

When you over oil those filters or any filter pannel or cone type you can screw up the MAF. This is from the oil collecting on the MAF sensor it's self and causing false readings eventually burning making it malfunction.

I know numerous ASE certified mechanic's that will vouch for what i just said too.

As for easy go fast parts. A down-pipe from www.3800performance.com and an intake from TDC Racing should get you on the right path. Let your car breathe!

just wanted to point out that you should not get your downpipe from 3800performance

3800performance.com has downpipes starting at $260
zzperformance.com has downpipes starting at $120
i had my "downpipe" done for $50 at a local exhaust shop.

Am i supposed to be dazzled?

K&N panel filters are garbage. Try this...Take a panel type filter and a $5.00 paper panel filter. Hold up the panel filter and try blowing into it, with your hand on the other side, see if you can feel anything...Now try the same thing with the paper filter.

Ive ruined 2 Maf's with those K&N panel type filters, and no, i didn't even oil it, and no it wasn't over-oiled either. The stock intake is restrictive as it is, that K&N panel filter is only making manners worse. As far as they're cones go, there not that bad

I would try the f/s thread for downpipes, there is a good deal on a zzp d/p in there right now.

now you do............http://www.grandprixforums.net/f73/m...ke-fwi-20.html
you will not ruin anything in your motor unless you are completely careless. You would almost have to try to ruin it.........this is very easy.......keep your eyes open and when you are all done just make sure to vacuum in any area that may be open to your motor if there are any, or you could also use an air hose depending on the application...you will be fine. If you do not want to make it yourself, just buy one that you can install.....TDC racing makes a good one that is priced very fairly and cheaper than most.......check out his website. He is a vendor on this site.

I could "probably" do something similar to this:

but I could not make a FWI. Would the picture above be just as effective? And How much HP would I look at gaining?

Thanks

Build the FWI. It was my first ever car project and mine is fine. Just make sure the cone fits. It's fairly easy to build yourself.

I would like too but in the guide on how to build and install one it says you have to cut your roof flashing, take off the bumper or headlight and I have no idea how to do either nor do I want to.

Okay, I never had to take off the bumper or the headlight. The only thing I undid was that metal piece that goes over the air box. And when you buy the roof flashing you just cut it little by little until it fits good. If you mess up they are only like 6 bucks.
