You want a l36 bottom end. My brother has a 98 and he bought it with a thrown rod. I went out to the yard and scored an 04 police impala motor, it has the bigger valves and powdered rods.

Powdered rods weren't around for the N/A engines until 2005. And police Impalas weren't supercharged, so it had to be a N/A engine.

so in a 2005 9c1 they used the powdered rods, even though it is a series II motor?
