Ok, strange one... 98 GT, car has 148K on it... I've only had the car for about 3 months, did an oil change right after I got it, did another one last week. Last night I started tearing apart the suspension and noticed a dent in the oil filter after only a week. When I did the first oil change I noticed the dent also, but kinda figured it was the oil filter wrench that did it.

The "dent" is located about 1/2" from where it mounts and is facing the outside towards the suspension. I guess a better word would be a dimple, it's not deep but something definately came up against it...

Anyone else ever encounter something similar?

is it bulged out or pushed in? if its bulged out, could be too high of oil pressure, stuck relief valve, if its a dent, could be a rock or something hit it from the road.

It's dented in, I was wondering about the rock thing also... Just seems weird that it was in roughly the same area on both filters.

You sure it was not caused by the wrench?

I'd say get a cheapo filter and throw it on and see if it still happens...if not, probably a freak accident deal.
