all i have to say is it will be getting done when i have money, so that will be never
I was searching around last night because i was bored and came up with an idea(probably bad)...What about a small turbo that is generally used on smaller engines, it would create less hp but also would have very little to no lag at all. Would something like that work?
any turbo would work. period. its what you want out of it. do you want around the town stoplight to stop light warrior, running 8 psi go with a smaller turbo. if you want something to scream on the highway pushin 20 psi + go with a larger turbo.
All turbos have compressor maps, simply b/c when you push a small turbo to much to far, it goes out of its efficiency range, creating heat and wear to the turbo. You have to size it correctly for your wants/needs.
I see, so when they recommend a turbo for an engine size of 2.0-3.0 or something of that nature it obviously would be the smaller one for the around town. I got it now.
Is there a way to know how far out of a "safe zone" you could go before damaging a turbo?
i would run a stupid big mammoth turbo. 30 pounds of boost. laggy like a mofo.
and you would still get beat b/c it would take 20 minutes to spool lol
Not if your good at brake boost launching like STi guys![]()
sti guys have something we dont, AWD lol
so what makes the turbo systems so much more expensive then doing a twop swap? say if I get a small turbo for cheaper than the SC, what makes the price go up so high on the turbo system?
all the custom parts that go along with it.... since they arent factory original parts, people charge a bundle to make them.
is there any way to make them yourself? Or do you just have to try to find someone who is nice and sells stuff for cheap?
yea good luck, no one sells stuff for cheap except me
Some day ill get into that department, not yet though
haha, I take it the equipment needed isn't your everyday torch and welder? lol(hoping)
add a pipe bender, and other tools to that. you can get creative, wont look the best most likely but oh well it would be functional.
I do know where I can get a pipe bender... and a little paint goes a long way. Ill see what I can do, may be a new and exciting interesting project.
well if you do make the manifolds yourself, you could always grind your welds smooth, clean them and ceramic coat them, thats what i would do. When i go turbo im keepin my headers and doin a turbo out back, STS style.
Thanks for the tip.
Ok, so I know you all said that the top swap would be cheaper but that is around 600 and up from what I can see, and if I get a small turbo(T3/T4) that will fit my needs from I can find that and all the other parts I should need for about $500, and with other random expenses needed I can find everything that I will need for about $600 and it will give me more HP than the SC. Also the ones I have found so far are smaller ones that according to the maps will work and will produce no turbo lag. So I think I will be going the turbo route.
Good luck man hope it works out for ya...the supercharger swap and tuning is just WORLDS easier than the turbo side IMO...
