My 99 GTP has been doing this for a few years and I think I am convinced it is the CPS after reading from this thread. But one question I have from the original post from 'holorinhal'. He states, "The engine continues to run normally, just with no rpm reading". Does this mean that the engine shuts off, then comes back on and continues to run normally or it never shuts off and the tach just happens to go to zero? Here is why I ask - as I am driving down the highway, the tach will go to zero for maybe 1 second, but my engine dies during this 1 second. Since the car is moving, it restarts itself and its then like nothing ever happened. The tach has gone to zero when sitting at a stop light too (rarely), and when this happens, I need to manually restart the car. Always restarts with no problem. These momentary "shutdowns" have been occurring on average about once every couple months for a few years. Do my symptoms still sound like a bad CPS or something else? Thanks!
Yep, still sounds like a bad CPS to me.
