Hello all, My name is Matt and i live in upstate NYS. I just bought an addition to the family, an 06 Base GP w/ 40k. Its bronze in color (unsure of actual paint name) It replaced the long over due 01 2.2L/stick cavalier(202k over due). I have a 80+ mile a day commute, and this fits the bill well. I've only had it 3 days and love the fuel mileage. It does allot of things i wanted it to do, except have the correct transmisson in it . I've been a FWD GM fan for a long time and have wrenched on many. I got out of the automotive industry about 3 years ago. I then began working where I do now as an ASE certified diesel tech. I'm more than willing to help with any questions, all though there is a TON of information on this site. At any rate i've found an 05 3.8L S/C with low miles for a grand. I really want to do a top end swap this spring ( my garage all though well equipped is pretty thrashed from the cold mid winter projects.) But this 06+ PCM issue bothers me. IF anybody has any more information on it please let me know. The car surely has decent power and is smooth. The 3.8L has really come along ways. The plastic intake is gone!

    Awesome.

First off don't buy a Gen 5 S/C for a grand. I just sold a ported, polished and rebuilt one for 450 shipped. Currenly there is no way around the pcm. Have not heard anything worse then the gas gauge being off and maybe a cupple of other minor things. But it's the only way right now.HPT is working on supporting the newer models soon. There are a LOT of steps to it though.

    Isin't that new intake nice

$450 is a wicked good deal, i was thinking about seeing if he'd throw in that HD tranny too for the price. Its a semi-local yard, but i've had really good experiances in the past. HPT developing something would be amazing in the mean time i want to get everything around for the swap, headers and all. I really like the ZZP Transmisson pan even if it is a touch expensive.

Yeah that pan is expensive. I'm assuming that is the one that has the drain plug in it. Check on ebay. I originally got the gen 5 for 330 shipped. Then it had 43,00 miles on it. It came from LKQ i think.

If you get a second check on ebay, i looked and didn't have any luck. Theres a yard in syarcuse, NY called benwood auto that took very good care of me price wise on a motor. I just think it'd be cheaper and faster to have a complete engine accesories and all right there all ready to go. Then I can port the heads while i'm on ECM stand by. Has anybody took ZZP up on there dyno tuning sessions? I've played with HP tuners before doing street tunes on a friends SS/SC cobalt and had good luck with using detontation threshold and advancing the timing a bit over the RPM range. GM has them running pig rich which is good for keeping them together but obviously bad for the power. I'm going to contact them and see where they are at on the software for the 06+. Appreciate all your help.

I looked on ebay and found the LKQ online seller and I guess i'll have to check back later. The only few they had S/C were $400 for a 97 with almost 160k. The other was 02 ish and 140k for $500.00.
