Hey everyone! So I'm wanting to install some glasspacks on my 99 Grand Prix GT, but not quite sure how to go about it or how to install them. I know where to get the parts, I just don't know what the best way to install them is. Im just wanting that deeper exhaust sound and everyone I've known who has glasspacks on their car loves them and it gives them an awesome deep exhaust sound. So should I put them in place of the mufflers? What size should I get? Should I weld them on or use exhaust putty? Or? Any info or help would be greatly appreciated!

It's going to sound terrible. Most replace the stock mufflers with some aftermarket mufflers.

Basically, if you make it louder, it's going to sound bad.

Put flowmasters on it and cut out the resonator.

    That'll make it sound like a V8.

Flowmasters sound too much like a ricer in my opinion. I've only ever heard one vehicle with glasspacks that sounds bad.

They're going to sound like dog **** because every 3800 sounds like dog ****. If you're dying for the glasspack sound, combine them with the most giant resonator you can find.

The stock replacements are Walkers. I had Dynomax exhaust on a '97, and the 3" Borla catback on a '99. I preferred the sound of the Borla kit, but wished I stayed 2.5" diameter.

I'm going to have to agree with everyone else who says a glasspack will sound like garbage. Only mufflers I've heard that make a 3800 sound great were Edelbrocks, and I think those have been discontinued for years.

It will sound like a 6 cylinder briggs and stratton, you have to think about the size and displacement of your cylinders, when I did my 3800 SC swap in my transport I did 2.5 borla cat back and zzp down pipe and it sounded great through the whole rpm range.

Chambered mufflers sound terrible on the 3800. The only thing that sounds better than stock is if you are turboed.

There is another brand I heard on a V6, non GM, Black Widow mufflers. Not sure how 3800 would sound. Also biggest issue is single exhaust from 6 sounds odd.
Trick with glass packs is getting perforated core versus louvered as the latter are super restrictive and if installed wrong one can be worse than the other.

It is technically a single exhaust on the Grand Prix. It splits before the mufflers to give it a dual look.

It doesn't matter the muffler, the 3800 will sound like ass

Sound is like looks, there are no absolute rules and what appeals to one individual may not, to another. Four bangers definitely literally sound like ass though.
All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.
