I have an 04 and did a top swap this spring. Ask me anything. I will help.
Sell the Gen 3. Get a Gen 5. More efficient and less headaches. Buy a used 04-05 GTP motor so you can get everything at once. Sell what you don't use.
TBs are the same for GT and GTP. Clean and reuse yours.
You will need a map and baro sensor (same part #) from a GTP. 2 bar GT vs 3 bar GTP. You will need the bracket, plug, and run a wire to the PCM for the baro sensor.
Needs heads, intake, fuel injectors, and fuel rail from GTP. Heads will probably have cracks between the valves. Do a valve job and run them with new 90 springs. Fuel injectors are larger in the GTP, plug and play.
Need GTP pulleys, coil bracket, and other misc stuff. Read the top swap thread for more info.
Run Speed daddy headers off ebay. Stock catback is fine.
If you want to run the boost control solenoid for traction control you will need to run a wire to the PCM for it. Otherwise tune it out and disable traction control. I am running it.
You got the engine out, throw a cam in there. Wait till Black Friday at ZZP and save some money next month or buy a used one on here. Run a new timing chain and tensioner no matter what. Mitigate risk.

I threw an 04 GTP base tune on mine then had it adjusted from there. I am on a 3.5 pulley for now.

I pulled, rebuild engine, degreed cam, rebuilt suspension and brakes, and reinstalled in a three day weekend. Prep it all, cherry picker, run air tools, not a bad weekend project. I also installed a TEP trans which you will end up needing when you kill the stock one with new found power. LOL
04 GP GT- top swap, VS cam, 2.8 pulley, E85, headers, 60 injectors, TEP 3:29 trans, Racelogic Traction Control, ZZP dyno tuned.
