    Hello,

I have a 2006 Grand Prix with a 3800 series III NA engine. My power steering upper bolt has broken and the bolt is half in the bolt hole. My question is what does the power steering pump bolted to? Is it a bracket? I can remove? or is it the engine block? As it stands I cannot not get a tool to fit in there to extract the bolt, so I am thinking I will have to drop the engine a little to gain access or remove a bracket.

    Thanks!

that bolt is in the side of the head. take the alt, and alt bracket off and take the p/s pump all the way off, push it to the side, you'll have room to get a extractor in there then.

you'll need new coolant elbows for the alt bracket.

and a right angle drill would work best too.

Uhg lol, I will try that at work tomorrow. I just had the alt bracket off doing a water pump. This car has been a nightmare. I hope this is the last of it haha. If it wasn't cast to aluminum that would have gotten welded lol

Were you able to get the bolt out? I have the same problem and I don't know how to remove it without dropping the engine.

First off I don't understand how one can break off one of the bolts that hold the ps pump on, I've changed 4 ps pumps on these cars and never even came close to breaking one off.
Second can you still see the bolt or did it break off inside the head?
