I've asked multiple places and have received three different answers so I figured I'd keep asking until someone is sure.

    I have a 2005 Grand Prix with a non supercharged 3800.

Can anyone tell me what the rating is on the alternator and if possible, both the max and idle?

I'm trying to find out if its necessary to upgrade to a high-output alternator to power my amplifiers or not.

    Thanks in advance.

I dont know what the idle rating is, but max rating is 105 amps. I think only the Bonneville, maybe the Regal had 125 amp alternators.

Okay, I checked All Data, and all it says is that it load test at 75 amp, rated output is 105 Amps.

Regal is 105 (or 102). 125 was the police Impala, I think.

The 125A alternator came stock in the Bonnevilles I know for sure.

Could very well be, I don't really know outside of W-Bodies.

goodguy, if you want more info, do a search for CS130D. That's the model of alternator we use; I dug up a bunch of into a while ago, but I can't find my bookmarks anymore.

Here we go, maybe this will help too:

    CS-130 & CS-130D High output alternators

Can someone point me to somewhere I can find a 200 amp alternator that will bolt on without any adapters, or new belts?

I don't think the stock one is going to handle 1150 watts rms.

105 * 14.4 = 1512 watts peak. Between your stereo and your other systems, it would be close.

That's fine when I'm driving down the street, but I'm going to be pushing 1150w rms so when the car hits idle, it's going to seriously strain the stock electrical system since it will more than likely only be producing 60-70 amps.

I've looked at places that sell high output alternators, but can't find anything that fit my specific application.

Can someone link me to some options that will fit my vehicle for sure?

i get light dim at idle pushing a 400W Hifonics amp @ 4ohms, so 1150WRMS is definatly going to stress the stock system, especially at idle

Check the rpo codes around your trunk lid and it should tell you what you have...

    KG7
    Generator 125 AMP

    K68
    Generator, 105-Amp

My 04 has the 125 amp.

you can run it, its more a matter of how much voltage drop your going to get, and the fact that your most likely only getting 40-60 amps at idle, hence light dimming at when idling/low rpms

well you get more than 60 at idle close to atleast 100 cuz i dont get much dimming if any at all at idle even when i do run full tilt at im doing closer to the 1900 watt mark so 1150 wont do much of anything ull be fine

There's no way it's able to output 100 amps at idle. I wouldn't expect that out of any alternator rated at less than 200 peak.

you are not running 1900W RMS on a stock charging system without massive amounts of dimming.

With an optimal charging system [15V] your pulling about 126A... theres NO WAY your running that and dont have issues with diming, or worse.
