I just bought a 93 Pontiac Grand Prix SE with a 3.4L DOHC V6 with a 5 speed. The CMP (crankshaft position sensor) plug is unplugged and I cant find the damn connector plug to it. I looked all over the place with my flashlight and cant find it. My last resort is to tap into the wires coming out of the ECM. Can anyone tell me where I can possibly locate this connector? Which side would it possibly be on or coming out of on the wiring harness. If I tear into the wire harness off the ECM I'm tapping into the A20 wire (24x crank sensor) and A10 (cam signal output), and into a pink ignition wire. Does that sound right? Thanks!

this problem is kind of different, so i am pretty sure this is why the car will not run? the crank sensor is in the rear of the engine. seem like the harnes would be on the passenger side for that but in the rear.

I was talking to some of the people on 60degreev6 forum and all of them have told me that the 91-93 Grand Prix's with the 3.4L DOHC MFPI do not have a camshaft position sensor because they do not have the 24x crankshaft sensor. So it is not required. The 94-on with the 3.4L SFI systems do have the CMP because they have the 24x crankshaft sensor.

hmm interesting, i owned a 93 gtp with the 3.4 and i do not recall either way. i never had a problem with the crank sensor. i will check myself and go from there let you kno what i find =) i like the idea of it being behing a 5 speed, mine was auto. and the 94 got more horses because of a mass air flow sensor... i was mad when i found this out mine was 93 lol

i went to autozone.com and they do list one for the 3.4 dohc. i would think that the crank sensor would be needed to start the car for sure, it is the cam sensor that would be difficult for the 24v. i am posative it has one in the rear af the engine block between the transaxle and the engine rear, its in the middle of the block in the rear. i am sure u have to see it and maybe only feel for it from the bottom. make sure if u get under there u jack it up safe, and support it with jackstands or equivelent. lemme kno. thanks
