Re: Got ****ed around on a craigslist deal please help
Exactly...
If we think about an engine and where items are under pressure, oil will almost never get into coolant. Oil is under pressure from the pump, through filter, bearings, lifters and pushed up into pushrods. After that.. it's drips back to the pan, and has zero pressure. Oil does not enter the heads under pressure.
Coolant meanwhile flows through the heads, block, headgasket area, LIM, Alt bracket, timing cover, WP, hoses, heater core and radiator under 16lbs of pressure constantly. The chances of oil having more pressure in an area where it could potentially meet coolant ... doesn't exist.

Unless you have a cracked head or cracked engine block

not even then sir. its pretty much impossible like were are saying.

Well hopefully it's just sludge

it is, the deg sludge is slick as sh it. and leaves a brown slime behind on your fingers.
Re: Got ****ed around on a craigslist deal please help
And I know it's supposed to cause permanent damage.... But other than Temps what can it harm my temperatures are fine

Re: Got ****ed around on a craigslist deal please help
that coolant dont eat gaskets, it just dont like to have air in the cooling system. when air meets dex cool it sludges up, then it can turn to snot and clog cooling ports. i pulled some nice blocking size balls of dex snot out of my heads when i did my lim.
just flush it and carry on, use a flush like prestone to clean it out good inside the block and rad.

BTW.. I changed your title for ya. It felt more appropriate.

Re: Got ****ed over by my Dad
I know it's been a while since this was active but I thought I would just share this. I only paid $550 for my 2000 GP SE. I hate the fact that it's only a 3.1 but in 2000 they gained a little HP over the pre 2000 models. My engine only has 45,600 miles on it and I have no engine issues, other than loosing a tiny bit of oil. Not sure where its going but I changed the oil at 43,000 miles and here I am 2,600 miles later and I've only about an 8th of a quart of oil. I really like my 3100. I do have transmission issues, but that's not related to the type of engine, lol

Wait... You have less than a quart of oil left in the engine? If I misunderstood you, look around the valve covers. That's where it all started for me. First a simple valve cover gasket repair, a week later a lim gasket job, two months later a top swap.
Maybe next car I'll just keep adding oil...

I'm guessing he meant lost...

Re: Got ****ed over by my Dad
I apologize, I just now saw this, lol. I did mean lost. And I actually just changed the oil again at about 48,000 miles, I'm at almost 51,000 now and I've not lost a drop of oil since.

Re: Got ****ed in the ass by my Dad
I have a 2001 SE and have been through the LIM gasket leakage issue. I agree with what others say about what looks like oil in the coolant actually being DEX coolant sludge. It tends to accumulate in the coolant overflow tank. It was present when I got the car, and the car at that point was not using any oil or coolant excessively, nor was there any evidence of coolant in the oil (the dipstick oil will look like slimy chocolate milk if there indeed was coolant in the oil).
After a year or two, the engine started losing coolant, at first slowly, then a LOT. It was due to the infamous lower intake manifold gasket leak that plagues the 3.1 V6s. Fortunately, the leak was from the coolant system to outside the engine, not internally to the engine oil or cylinders. It first started out as a slow drop in coolant over weeks at a time, along with the smell of anitfreeze under the hood. Eventually it got bad enough that i could see the leak out of the engine from around the LIM gasket edge on the head above the starter motor. At that point I was going through about a quart of coolant every week and the antifreeze smell under the hood was extremely strong. I had the LIM gaskets replaced about a year ago and since then, the engine has run really well, with no more coolant loss at all and of course the antifreeze smell is gone. There is still some sludge in the coolant overflow tank, I probably should take it out and clean it, the DEX cololant is pretty clean after the LIM gasket replacement.
I would keep an eye on your engines oil and coolant levels after your flush. You may not have an LIM gasket leak at all. If you do see coolant showing up in the oil, take care of it right away. I had a Ford 3 liter V-6 develop a LIM gasket leak (not just GM engines had this problem in the late 90s early 2000s) that did put coolant in the oil and before I could have it taken care of, it DID spin a bearing.
All that said, as a father of two now adult sons, you need to show your father more respect. Starting off a thread with a title like you used would really piss me off if I knew it came from one of my sons, especially after I tried to help him out in buying a car. Also doesn't make much of a good first impression of you to people who don't know you such as readers of this forum like me.
