    you doing the 5th input clutch as well? that was one of the upgrades my trans shop recommended although my TEP stage 1 kit didnt come with the extra clutch unfortunately

    Yeah. For the little extra cost, I had to. The steels were under a buck and a half each, and the extra friction was just over two dollars.

    My package from Triple Edge cam today



    Nothing real sexy. Just an input clutch piston and a reaction carrier



    But the clearance on the TEP carrier is much better



    Carriers are done, waiting for final assembly



    Tore the pump apart. Everything looked great







    Did a quick resurface on the pump cover



    Pulled the 2-1 manual servo apart



    Cleaned and reassembled



    Cleaned and inspected the oil pump shaft. Slipped on the seal



    From the little bit of trans experience I've had, this "Lip Wizard" is about 100 times better than that double ended wire style lip seal tool

    Channel plate is as far as I can go until I get the shift kit



    Got the superior AFL valve and the Sonnax TTC relief valve in



    The Teflon seals on the 300m input shaft



    Really nice having the right tools



    And the manual servos are done



    Prepping for the valve body tear down

    I got the valve body completely disassembled and the first round of cleaning done



    And everything is kept in order



    More cleaning/prep



    All the valve body parts looked really good and none of the valves were stuck. Unfortunately, the bores on the accumulator pistons were pretty sloppy so I'm going to have to replace those. Thanks to "GMRBadass" for the accumulator housing cover.

    It's reading a manual and following directions. There are some sections that a thorough "how-to" video would be nice for some of the tips/tricks to get past some of the difficult steps. Also having the right tools goes a long way.

    Haha! Thanks. It's not that bad. Organization is key. Baggies, muffin tins, and a sharpie are essential. A good work bench helps a ton too.

    Agreed. I have that Ebay video, and honestly, it's nothing compared to the ATSG manual. Make friends with the guys at your local trans shop. They may be willing to do the stuff you'd need the special tool for, for the cost of a pizza or some doughnuts.

    As a side project....this is great, it's all in the details. Just an FYI make sure you replace the pressure control solenoid with a new unit. I commend you on your meticulous attention to things, kudos. I know just how frustrating a trans rebuild can be since I just did mine for the yellow car. Took almost 2 1/2 weeks to get done.

    Thanks! I love your posts on the LeMons car. I recently watched the Roadkill episode where they entered the Rotsun. Looks like a blast!

    The transmission is a fun little time killer. I'm purposely taking things slow. Ordering things as I need them. Walking away when something comes up... This thing is going to be a no rush, no regrets build.

    I think I enjoy transmission work because you have to be meticulous. It fits my personality. I actually enjoy all the minutia of how these things work. It's like my grown up version of the legos I loved as a kid.

    I planned on putting in all new solenoids. AC Delco's for the shift, and Borg Warner for the PCS and TCCS.

    Me too. This thing is going to be my automotive opus.

    I got the final round of cleaning done on the valve body. Even a relatively clean and well maintained unit will still have a decent amount of silt/sludge/paste in the crevices. What I've learned after doing a couple of rebuilds... When you think everything is perfectly clean, you're probably about halfway done.

    Any idea on what the cost so far is invested? Also is like to know whats all being done to the channel plate and the vb as for upgrades or maybe I missed it.

    Channel plate and vb upgrades offer huge differences vs stock!

    In that pic of your 2nd clutch assembly, do you have more feelers behind there that don't show in the pic or is your total clearance .035? From what i've read, it should be between .048 and .072 with most people shooting for .060. Is it okay to go that low?

    Also in another one of your pics you have a blue plastic tool you're using. What is that called and where did you get it? I have the ebay video too, just got it in a day or two ago, but the audio is messed up in a few places, including the place where he introduces the tool.

    Just 0.035". That's it. Maybe a little more. There's just a light drag on the feeler. Even at 0.035" there's still over 0.005" clearance per friction. Don't get me wrong... I wouldn't go any tighter than 0.035" but I do like having it be right there. It's only going to get looser up over time. Is it okay? We'll see...

    Which one? All my teflon expander/shrinkers are blue. Is that what you're talking about?

    Oh yeah. Those were part of a complete kit for installing and sizing the Teflon seals. Everything in blue came in one box. The ATSG manual has the Kent Moore numbers for all those.



    I got them off Ebay and I'm embarrassed to say how much I paid. (No, not because it was too much... )

    More parts came today



    With the trans-go kit, I was able to complete the channel plate





    The rest of the shift kit (at least the parts I'm using) will hang out in the accumulator housing until I get new pistons



    And all the shift kit parts you don't use when doing a full rebuild



    On to the valve body kit



    Random pictures of the kit components














    I had to put the old TCC solenoid back in to retain a sleeve that was part of the upgraded TCC control valve. It'll get replaced with a new Borg Warner solenoid



    The pan cleaned up real nice. Wasn't that bad to begin with though. Just needs a Heli-Coil and it'll be better than new.

    Nice, I've been subbed but will watch the valve body stuff closely. I put the full shift kit in my 02, since I was in there doing the 4th clutch hub. On my 06 I don't think I'll ever be in there, so I'm gonna use the red spring for the 4th accumulator in the 1-2 accumulator. Just like the 2-3 has. Just got my transgo kit in the mail today as well.
    Also I've been thinking of using slightly longer shims than what Transgo supplies.
